Moving Through Ward 4: Cars, Bikes and Buses Working Together

Most people in Ward 4 don’t fit into just one box. We drive cars and trucks. We ride bikes and scooters when the weather is good. We take the bus when it’s cold, snowy, or when parking is a hassle. I’m the same way.

I support traditional vehicles in all forms — gas, electric and hybrid. I’m not anti‑car. In fact, I work in the auto industry at Chrysler, building the very vehicles that many of us rely on every day. I understand how important cars and trucks are to families, workers and local businesses in Ward 4.

At the same time, I also love the freedom that bike lanes and trails provide. I ride e‑bikes, pedal bikes and an e‑scooter regularly, in and around Ward 4 and across Windsor. When I’m on two wheels, I see how much safer and more enjoyable it is when there are clear, connected routes instead of gaps and guesswork.

In colder or snowy weather, I often rely on public transit. That gives me a front‑row seat to what works and what doesn’t with our bus system. When buses are late, overcrowded or poorly connected, people simply can’t depend on them.

Because I use all of these options — car, bike, scooter and bus — and because I work in the auto industry, I don’t see this as a fight between drivers, cyclists and public transit. I see a need for common‑sense design that keeps everyone moving safely.

That means:

  • Bike lanes and trails that are well‑planned and clearly marked, not dropped in randomly

  • Road layouts that respect drivers and traffic flow, instead of creating confusion

  • Transit that is reliable and efficient, especially in winter when more people depend on it

Ward 4 deserves streets that work for real life:

  • Good roads for traditional vehicles/traffic

  • Safe, connected routes for bikes and scooters

  • Public transit that people can actually rely on

We don’t have to choose one over the others. We just have to be honest about how people really move around our ward and build with balance and common sense that respects all users of our roads.
